Recipient Org: Description Oasis Childcare Centre is a registered charity. The charity was established in 1996 to support vulnerable families in Elmbridge by providing a community based childcare centre, to educate and further the development of children and to support and educate parents and families in need of assistance across all social circles. The centre aims to provide a safe haven for under-privileged children, offering them a welcoming refuge from the stresses and pressures of dysfunctional family situations. Oasis works with families where the children's circumstance is often symptomatic of years of unresolved issues for the parents and the family unit as a whole. These families often find themselves in a circle of abuse and hardship where the outcome is extremely low levels of self-esteem and personal worth for all concerned but most of all for the children. During the course of a year the Oasis Charity works with over 200 families involving some 500 individuals and helps to rebuild lives and achieve stability within the family unit. Support includes a drop-in centre for families, an OfSted regulated, 'Outstanding' crèche facility for families struggling with childcare or needing additional support, and a weekly meeting group for parents, giving access to professional counsellors, advice and information services to provide assistance on financial, legal, health, housing and social services issues, and courses on parenting including a Young Parents programme (for 14-26yr olds), coping as a young parent, money management, domestic violence, IT and self-confidence. Oasis run programmes for sufferers of domestic violence, courses for children to combat insecurities and depression, and various healthy living courses. Oasis currently employs 1 full-time and 8 part-time staff who are supported by a 3 volunteers and a Management Committee of 5 members.
