Recipient Org: Description The Horley Conservation Group (HCG) was set up in February 2014 by the Gatwick Greenspace Partnership (with support from Reigate and Banstead Borough Council and Horley Town Council), to help manage Horley's green spaces. It now attracts around 15 regular volunteers for each monthly practical conservation task and is now independently constituted. There has been a need for a volunteer group to help manage Horley's green spaces for a number of years and this need has only increased in recent years, as all local authorities have had to find increased savings in non-essential areas, such as local parks and other amenity and conservation areas. HCG is a successful, pro-active group which is keen to expand into new parts of Horley and attract new members. In particular, one area of expansion expected imminently relates to the the "Riverside Green Chain", a large conservation area on the north east side of Horley, that is due to be handed over to Reigate and Banstead Borough Council in 2016/2017. The variety of activities the group has undertaken to date continues to grow as ideas from the local public and group members are taken on board. Activities include control of excess vegetation, general coppicing, pond maintenance, and litter picking. HCG has a Management Committee of 5 people and 25 volunteers.
