Recipient Org: Description MGSO4 is a volunteer-led CIO with the objective of developing, promoting and delivering inclusive arts activities and events in Epsom & Ewell, for the benefit of the whole community. This includes an annual arts festival. It started operating in June 2015, and registered as a CIO with the Charity Commission in March 2016. The name MGSO4 was inspired by MgSO4, (magnesium sulphate) the chemical formula for Epsom Salts, that made the town famous almost 400 years ago. The charity's vision is to restore the arts to their position as a driving force in the community; showcasing talent, building sustainable businesses and inspiring the next generation. MGSO4 aims to inspire residents; generate new ideas; entertain audiences; represent creative people; unite the community; include everyone; and be sustainable. _x000D_ _x000D_ It began in May 2015 with a letter to the local newspaper, asking why there was no arts provision in Epsom & Ewell. Local artist Sarah Dewing and 'What's On In Epsom' offered to host a meeting for anyone who was interested in putting on an arts festival and so many people turned up that she ran out of chairs. MGSO4 now works with Epsom and Ewell community groups and residents to ensure that everyone is able to access and benefit from arts activities for wellbeing. In 2016, these include The Sunnybank Trust, Brickfield Arts, Conquest Arts, My time for Young Carers, residents of several Epsom and Ewell dementia care homes and sheltered housing. The outcome of these projects were showcased at MGSO4 Epsom and Ewell Arts Festival in June 2016. MGSO4 has a Management Committee of 10 people. At the June festival, there were 50 volunteers including 6th Form Students. MGSO4 has no paid staff.
