Recipient Org: Description The Silver Club of New Haw and Woodham is a club first established in 1948 for people over the age of 65 years (now 50 years) who live in New Haw, Woodham and the surrounding areas. The minimum membership age was lowered due to people retiring earlier, more people being interested in the club, and members having younger partners who also wished to attend. The main activities of the club are to provide an opportunity for members to meet for social and recreational purposes, to organise outings and arrange suitable programmes for meetings, to provide information which may be relevant to members, to provide a medium for members to express their views, and to render members any other services they might require. The club holds regular monthly meetings at a day centre, at which information is disseminated. Tea and cakes are served to encourage conversation. Entertainment is regularly organised and includes talks, exhibits, demonstrations, games, quizzes and other activities. Outings are also organised when possible. There are around 74 members of the club at present. The club is supported by a core Management Committee of 3 people with a wider Committee of 12 people.
