Recipient Org: Description Home-Start Spelthorne converted to a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) on 1st April 2015 and is affiliated to the Home-Start UK network. The aim of the CIO is to support families who are experiencing difficulties or suffering stress and have at least one child under the age of five. Support is provided via home visiting volunteers, who meet with the family once a week to assist with various aspects of parenting, ranging from practical help in caring for the child, to the development of parenting skills, confidence and self-esteem. The visits are focused on increasing the independence of the family, emphasising the pleasures of family life, and reassuring parents that difficulties in bringing up children are not unusual. The approach of volunteers is flexible to take account of different needs of each family, and the charity carefully matches volunteers with families based on their skills and experience. At present, 47 volunteers are engaged with the charity, all of which have completed a thorough 40-hour training programme. The charity is governed by 13 trustees, who are supported by 1 full-time and 3 part-time members of staff._x000D_ In 2015/16 Home-Start Spelthorne supported 96 families, 220 children through home-visiting, a family group, Jubilee tea part, Panto visit and a number of fun days.
