Recipient Org: Charity Number 1076244
Recipient Org: Description The North Surrey Community Counselling Partnership (working name The Counselling Partnership) is a registered charity which was established in 2002 to provide short-term (up to one year), low cost, non-emergency, weekly counselling on issues such as stress, depression, anger, personal crisis, low self-esteem, bereavement and relationship problems. _x000D_ _x000D_ A key objective is to promote the work within local communities where there are known pockets of deprivation or adults over the age of 16 years on low income (most of the referrals are from the Boroughs of Woking, Runnymede and Elmbridge. The Counselling Partnership (TCP) are also now receiving referrals from neighbouring boroughs within Surrey. Since establishing, TCP has received over 3,500 referrals, either directly from clients or via health and social care professionals. Referrals are increasingly received from carers via Carer Support organisations and from Victim Support. Beneficiaries are asked to make a minimum contribution of £20 per session (much less than private counselling services), however the charity offers subsidies to those who find this financial commitment to be prohibitive. _x000D_ _x000D_ Counselling sessions are held in a variety of community venues across the catchment area, including Walton Community Hub, Cobham Day Centre and Maybury Centre in Woking, and are facilitated by trained counsellors who work for the charity as volunteers. TCP is engaged with 20 volunteers who are each committed to providing at least 3 hours counselling per week, for a minimum of one year. The volunteer counsellors receive supervision and mentoring. Counsellors are also given the opportunity to use their work with the charity to accrue client hours which are required to complete professional qualifications such as the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) qualifications. During the financial year 2014/15 TCP received more than 230 enquiries for counselling and provided more than 1200 therapy sessions._x000D_ _x000D_ The Counselling Partnership employs 2 part time staff as well as the 20 volunteers, and is governed by a Management Committee of 6 individuals_x000D_ _x000D_ NSCCP operates in Elmbridge but covers the whole of north Surrey. It has been operating within the community for fifteen years and prides itself on providing high quality face to face therapy, regardless of financial circumstances with the aim to help improve mental wellbeing within the Surrey community. People living in some of Surrey's most deprived areas are beng forgotten because of the county's wealth. Many vulnerable clients, including people in abusive relationships, have limited financial means and can't afford one to one therapy in the private sector. Counselling is offered for anything up to a year to help clients to recover from distress or trauma. Our service has no public funding and relies on donations and 'one off' grants. _x000D_ _x000D_ Our key objectives are to:_x000D_ • promote our work across north Surrey where there are known pockets of deprivation or adults over the age of 17 yrs on low income _x000D_ • provide one to one talking therapy to those who otherwise could not afford it. In return we provide good quality supervision/mentoring to train and support volunteer counsellors_x000D_ • develop partnerships with local voluntary services eg: Carer Support groups and Victim Support Surrey._x000D_ _x000D_ Individuals can contact NSCCP directly by telephone or email and they can also be referred by any organisation. For example, during 2015/16 victims of crime were referred to NSCCP via Victim Support, Walton CABs, Walton and Woking as well as health professionals. Clients from the most deprived areas such as Maybury and Sheerwater in Woking and North Walton come to us self referred. We wish to continue to offer counselling sessions throughout 2017/18 and extend our 'Open to All' initiative to cover these deprived areas..
