| Recipient Org: Description | Friends of Papercourt Sailability is a registered charity established in February 2011. Activities of the charity include “the provision of recreational sailing facilities for disabled people. To provide the services and support required for people with disabilities, their carers and those supporting the sailing for those with disabilities, to enjoy and partake in the amateur sport of sailing at Papercourt Lake, Ripley, Surrey.” In April 2016 a Royal Yachting Association (RYA) Award Scheme was introduced giving the disabled sailors the opportunity to record in a log book their achievements. This has been very successful and has given many disabled sailors a sense of pride and achievement. The group enjoys using Papercourt Sailing Club’s facilities (lake, clubhouse, rescue boats, jetties, training arrangements etc) whilst the charity (Friends of Papercourt Sailability) seeks to meet the capital costs (boats, hoists and other specialised equipment including the maintenance thereof) associated with the particular needs of Sailability. The group meets on the first, third and fifth Friday of each month from April to October. 35 volunteers support the group and a management committee of 6 oversee the charity’s activities. |
