Recipient Org: Description Haslemere Musical Society (HMS) is a registered charity which was established in 1923. HMS is an amateur choir and symphony orchestra which performs 4 concerts annually, in Haslemere. The objectives of the charity are to "educate the public in the art and science of music, to enable members to make music together at regular rehearsals of choral and orchestral works under the direction of skilled musicians appointed for the purpose, to perform such works at public concerts and offer concert-goers value for money and from time to time to commission new works for performance by the society. The society has approximately 100 members, including an orchestra and chorus. A significant number of the performance audience are elderly, providing a valuable opportunity to access an enjoyable day/evening out. The society engages with professional musicians to lead its activities, and has open rehearsals for anyone interested in joining the society. The charity aims to be all inclusive, and therefore does not hold auditions and makes every effort to maintain subscriptions and ticket prices at a low level. There is a management committee of 12 Trustees, and the society is run wholly by volunteers. HMS also holds 6 open musical evenings open to all musicians, and a public annual "Come & Sing" event. HMS employs are 4 part time musical professionals on a sessional basis: Choirmaster, Choir Rehearsal Pianist, Orchestral Conductor and Leader (1st violin).
