Recipient Org: Description The Haven aims to reduce stigma and maximise the wellbeing of adults with the diagnosis of Personality Disorder, and Complex Trauma. These diagnoses are most often brought on by childhood abuse and/or neglect. In adulthood these conditions often lead to high intensity distress and dysfunctional coping strategies such as self-harm, and sadly suicidal behaviours. The Haven was set up in 2004 at the outset with the full collaboration of people living with the diagnosis and as such the project has always answered to their needs. The services the Haven offers are regularly reviewed and clients have a monthly meeting to discuss all aspect of the project from governance to delivery .The project is still fully co-produced. As result we offer services and support that our clients need and want. We offer 4 weekly recovery groups, 16 half hour slots of therapeutic support as well as a crisis prevention telephone line and face-to face back up if needs be five evenings a week. The crisis prevention service runs from Sunday through to and including Thursday and is available from 5 pm to 8 pm. During the weekday afternoons - after the recovery sessions and alongside the 1:1 therapeutic work- we offer self-directed groups and friendship groups where our clients learn to trust and interact in a safe environment. In addition, clients contribute with peer volunteering at our Saturday groups and some recovery groups. They also help with fund raising and this contributes between £12-15,000 per year (although this year, 2020, we will be hard pressed to reach those heights as most of the funding derives from tombolas at outdoor events during the spring and summers season). Clients are also represented on the Board of Trustees and regularly accompany staff to community meetings, raising awareness and contributing to regional strategic work. We accept students and professional visits to the project, and clients are actively encouraged to meet with both. We have found these visits to be very positive and the feedback suggests that we are making an impact on the services we work alongside. Our client group can be challenging and is often seen as such. We welcome the opportunity to break through the stigma and showcase what good practice for this vulnerable group looks like.
