| Recipient Org: Description | Voluntary Action Epping Forest (VAEF), operational since 1993 is an independent membership based charity, our mission is to work with the people of Epping Forest District and Harlow District to empower, support and develop voluntary and community activity. As an umbrella organisation we develop new initiatives to meet community needs and promote cooperation between the voluntary and statutory sectors. We offer a range of practical support, including advice on funding, help with running a voluntary organisation and provide a comprehensive Volunteer Service to help local people access volunteering opportunities. We also run a diverse range of community projects, these include: Community Handyman Service - providing a Handyperson to complete odd jobs in vulnerable peoples homes, keeping them safe by fitting anti falls equipment and home security features in addition to jobs such as fitting curtain rails, repairing doors, fitting new shelves or simply changing a light bulb and much more. A number of other services we provide for isolated residents in Epping Forest include Benefits Advice, Befriending, Volunteer Centre, Ace Activities – Support for people with learning disabilities and Gardening. The VAEF Handyperson service that VAEF provides is for elderly and vulnerable residents in Epping Forest looking for support in the home for odd jobs which they are unable to complete themselves. This service is a chargeable one, however it is provided to elderly and vulnerable people in the Epping Forest District and is subsidised by VAEF who are not making a profit from any work carried out. This work ensures that service users are safer and less exposed to crime in their homes. This service is available to elderly / vulnerable residents of Epping Forest on low incomes and also to those who have experienced domestic violence or been victims of crime. Residents who have used the service feel safer and more secure at home following our work and the additional security we provide and fit. |
