Recipient Org: Description One Community is a DIY organisation created by the needs of the local people of Tilbury and Chadwell-st-Mary during the peak of the recession of 2008. Our vision is to inspire and support local people to work actively together to achieve the best for themselves and their community, ultimately improving their quality of life and creating economic prosperity. Our objectives are: 1. To develop the skills and capacity of local people. 2. To work in partnership with others to promote community well-being. 3 To own, manage and maintain affordable, accessible and thriving community facilities. 4. To create a sustainable community anchor organisation. We work with the most disadvantaged in the two wards that are in the 10-20% most deprived in England (Indices of Multiple Deprivation 2019). We support the marginalised such as ex-offenders, disabled, young people, 50+, ethnic minorities, Travellers, LGBTQ, and lone parents who face multiple barriers to employment. Our projects are needs-led and we actively encourage involvement and volunteering from people of all backgrounds. We are generally seen as a one-stop shop. Our unique skill is working with unemployed people, building partnerships that foster and promote economic growth and ultimately alleviating poverty by reducing barriers to employment.
