Recipient Org: Description "Congratulations on completing your first world war project. It was clear the project was a big success and it was particularly good to read about the strong volunteer engagement, as well as the partnerships you have built. I was also impressed with the level of project evaluation provided. Well done to everyone who was involved." (Rebecca Jenkins HLF) Alfie James Productions is a performance company with limited guarantee. With a serious interest in producing performances and creating community projects which explore issues affecting society and to promote positive social change. We aim to produce regular performances, offer creative workshops, produce short films and to develop our own research studies. Our Core Aims: 1. Regularly produce theatrical performances and short films. 2. Use performance techniques including storytelling to explore issues affecting society and to promote positive social change. 3. Research and develop new and old performance techniques. 4. To foster and promote new writing. 5. Inspire others and to develop creative arts within the local community. 6. Develop Heritage projects which develop history skills and bring history stories alive through performance techniques. Alfie James Productions was set up in December 2015. (Firstly, as a community group before becoming a registered company with limited guarantee in December 2016) Although still a new group, we have already successfully completed several community theatre projects in the Essex and London area and have staged over 8 successful sell-out productions. We have worked with over 150 vulnerable adults using performance skills to develop their confidence, independence and well-being; encouraging them to reconnect with society gaining employment, training or voluntary work locally. The project was a huge success and we formed strong links with local organisations including Open Road, Night Shelters and Fresh Beginnings. We have worked with special needs departments in local colleges, supporting the teaching of curriculum aims through performance skills and working with those with physical and learning disabilities. We have also created The Black Dog Theatre Creation, which supports people with mental health issues through theatre skills and successfully run six projects in Colchester, Brentwood and London. We fully understand the importance of team work and are proud to have formed strong links with the Rethink London organisation, the Together organisation, London ELMS and the Puppet Soup Theatre Company. We have developed The Acoustic Lounge Project which supports the development of local Song-writers and musicians and have developed a popular song-writing competition as well as setting up regular gigs and a one-day summer music festival. We have also worked with the Ministry of Defence and produced an Armed Forces Community Day Concert. Most recently, we have completed The Fray Bentos Community Project in London which was supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund and the First World War Engagement Centre. The project was a massive success and we learnt so much from the project and working with our partnerships. We have since shared what we learnt from carrying out the Fray Bentos Project with other like-minded Historians project leaders at The First World War Engagement Centres Conference and have been asked by some of the parties present to support their projects as a voluntary advisory role. We also developed our first Black Dog Theatre Creation in London and have formed a link with the London Rethink SIBS group whom we have been working with and raising our awareness of the support needed for family, friends and carers of those suffering from mental health issues. In this project, we are keen to apply what we have learnt from working with both the Rethink London SIBS and the Puppet Soup Theatre Company.
