Recipient Org: Description To promote a good quality of life by supporting people living with dementia, their carers, family and friends. We run a monthly support meeting with activities specifically chosen to meet the needs of those living with dementia. Anyone affected by dementia or memory loss in any way living on the Dengie peninsula can become a member. We are the only group providing this kind of social support east of Maldon. We provide support to carers as well as to those living with dementia and remain in contact up to and post bereavement. We have a mobile and reply to general enquiries about dementia and signpost people to other services as appropriate. We raise awareness and increase understanding of the many issues that can affect people living with dementia, their carers, families and friends. At the monthly meetings we provide a range of activities including: chair exercises exercises for the brain singing movement arts and crafts puzzles and a group jigsaw workshops led by local artists entertainment and singing led by local singers and musicians a christmas party We have a group flowerbed outside the Council offices where we meet which members tend and plan plantings We go on occasional outings as well as having an outing to the local Art Trail and a summer outing each year in addition to the monthly meetings. Members are involved in planning the activities which are chosen to reflect their interests and backgrounds. In 2016 The Dengie D-Caf led on the first Dengie Rocks Against Dementia (DRAD) music festival in Burnham-on-Crouch to raise awareness of dementia amongst the wider public and to promote a dementia friendly community and the 2018 DRAD is the focus of this application.
