Recipient Org: Description | The main purpose of Small Heath Amateur Boxing Club (SHABC) is the advancement of social welfare, cohesion, educational attainment and health and wellbeing through the art of boxing. The club exists to provide facilities and expertise for children, young people and adults with the primary aim of improving health and well-being and promoting positive lifestyles to the residents of Ladywood, Nechells, Small Heath and the surrounding Birmingham areas. We do this through the medium of sport and recreation with a particular focus on boxing and non-contact boxing as well as fitness training, gym work and other recreational activities. Our aim is to have a positive impact on the social welfare of those that participate and to help children and young people improve their own life chances and living conditions. Our work targets those who are most in need including those who are living in areas of high deprivation, young people excluded from school, people in poor health and those known to be involved in criminal activities, anti social behaviour and / or gang affiliation. We also offer services to young adults with mental health needs and for those who find themselves not in employment, education or training. |
