Recipient Org: Description Oxford Hub is the centre for social action in Oxford. Our aim is to engage university students and residents in social and environmental issues, and ultimately support them to shape a better city. In 2016-17 we supported over 500 volunteers to take action across 30 community projects, and ran events reaching 1383 attendees. Our flagship volunteering programme is Schools Plus, where over 230 university students tutor in local schools to support children and young people’s academic interest, confidence, and attainment. Elsewhere in the city, volunteers run activities in order to tackle elderly isolation, ranging from IT classes to musical performances in care homes. We also deliver numerous other projects, including free English Language classes for recent migrants and extracurricular activity days for children referred to us by social services. In addition to our established volunteering opportunities, we also support individuals to have a social impact through placements. These are structured programmes which recruit and train participants so that they can share their skills with local charities either as interns, impact measurement consultants, or young trustees. Finally, through our Social Enterprise Awards we support individuals to launch their own initiatives.
