Recipient Org: Description | We're a volunteer-led organisation in Sandford-on-Thames, serving this village, neighbouring Littlemore & Rose Hill. Set up to offer a much needed social hub we run a community shop & café: an invaluable, welcoming social space for isolated and vulnerable residents and a convenient, well-stocked, affordable shop, open on 6 days a week. Every Saturday morning we add our market, now a core event in the weekly diary: a source of good affordable local produce, an incubator space for new micro businesses and a vital route to market for local producers. Volunteers also run diverse groups and activities for the benefit of the community from our space: bike mechanic team, Knit & Stitch group, weekly table tennis sessions, gardening team, monthly lunch club for the elderly, monthly ‘Pay what you can’ Food Surplus Café and Good Neighbour scheme. We deliver these activities through a structured, inclusive volunteering programme offering supportive, independent volunteering opportunities for everyone, including people who for many reasons might struggle in mainstream work. Supported by local mental health charities, Restore and Response, we welcome volunteers rebuilding structure after mental ill-health, we have young and old volunteers, from diverse social and ethnic backgrounds. We won OCVA's Best Community Project 2017. |
