Recipient Org: Description Home-Start Oxford wants to see a society in which every parent has the support they need to give their children the best possible start in life. In 2018 we will celebrate 30 years of service. In this time, we have supported over 2,000 vulnerable families in Oxford and surrounding towns and villages. At the heart of our provision is the training, matching and support of volunteers with families. Volunteers offer support, friendship and practical help to families with a child under five, particularly those who are vulnerable, isolated or under stress. Our Family Support Worker project evolved from this work. By employing skilled staff, and providing enhanced supervision, we can reach families with very complex needs, including domestic abuse, substance abuse, mental health, learning difficulties, and the greater risks around safeguarding and exploitation that can follow. Through weekly visits, in the family’s home, we build trusting relationships and provide practical support, including help to access other specialist services. We help families to overcome social isolation; improve mental well-being, parenting, attachment, play, routines, nutrition, budgeting and debt management; manage the impact of disability or illness, and recovery from trauma. The Nurturing Families with Complex Needs Project fits within this overall remit.
