Recipient Org: Description | The Cutteslowe Seniors is the only club.in the neighbourhood for the over 60's,and is a lively, supportive group, whose members are now in their 80s and 90s. .The main purpose of the club is for members to have a twice monthly talk on a variety of interesting topics, including reminiscence sessions, and also to participate in intergenerational work with the local school. The Seniors go on a trip to a place of interest on the fourth Friday of each month. The talks provide a discussion point and they greatly enjoy the trips, as for many of them, it is the only time they travel beyond their immediate neighbourhood. A crucial objective is to provide dependable, wheel chair compatible transport, as without this facility, even those members, who were previously able to travel by public transport are no longer able to get to the centre.Meeting up on a regular basis helps to reduce the isolation and depression that all too often afflicts the elderly. As one member who had recently lost her husband of many years said:'Coming to the group means the world to me. Another objective is to ensure that members input ideas and suggestions about speakers and venues and voice any concerns they have, thus ensuring they fully participate in the running of their club. They also pass on their valuable life experiences to the next generation through intergenerational work, thus ensuring they can still make a positive contribution, which in turn promotes self confidence. A further aim is to provide help and support, if need be, to members, some of whom continue to be part of the group until the very end. Last, but not least, members wish to continue to share the companionship and positive outlook that characterises the group for as long as they possibly can.. |
