Recipient Org: Description In 2018 Home-Start Oxford celebrates 30 years of service to vulnerable families in Oxfordshire. Over 2,000 families have been supported. In the last two years 99% of primary contacts were mothers. Our staff, trustees and volunteers are predominantly women and we are a woman-led organisation. At the heart of our provision is the training, matching and support of volunteers who offer support, friendship and practical help to families (primarily mums) with under fives, who are vulnerable, isolated or under stress. Our Family Support Worker project evolved from this work. By employing skilled staff, and providing enhanced supervision, we can reach families with multiple disadvantages and complex needs, including domestic abuse, substance abuse, mental health, learning difficulties, and the greater risks around safeguarding and exploitation that can follow. Through weekly home visits, most often to mothers and their under fives, we build trusting relationships and provide practical support; help access other specialist services; build social networks; improve skills and confidence around parenting, attachment, play, routines, nutrition, budgeting and debt management; improve mental and physical well-being; support victims of domestic abuse; manage the impact of disability, illness, or trauma. The Empowering Mums Within Complex Needs Families project fits within this overall remit.
