Recipient Org: Description We are a group aimed at deaf and hard of hearing parents with children under five, although we are starting to branch out to those with under 7s. We meet up on the first Tuesday of the month for two hours, giving the parents an opportunity to talk to other parents who use BSL (British Sign Language). It is difficult for parents to understand whats happening in mainstream parent groups where there can be too much happening or people talking too fast. We provide speakers with an interpreter on particular subjects, based on the parents requests. For example we have had information on childcare in Bristol, first aid and a midwife visit. We also organise special activities with an interpreter to ensure full access to communication. We also arrange weekend meets so that fathers and working mothers can be involved too; which can be trips, days out, themed parties like Christmas and Halloween. Previous trips have been Bristol Zoo and Bitton Railway ride.
