Recipient Org: Description Our aim is to provide one to one reading lessons to adults who struggle to read, in suitable venues near to the readers' homes. We are 'free, flexible and friendly'. We are affiliated to Read Easy UK whose mission statement is as follows: 'To advance the education of the public on the subject of adult literacy by recruiting, training, organising and supporting volunteers to coach adults with reading difficulties. This should be done on a one to one basis, by applying the policies and procedures of Read Easy UK and thereby promote, sustain and increase for public benefit individual and collective levels of adult literacy.' We are run entirely by volunteers with 2 part time volunteer coordinators who deal with a total of up to 20 volunteer coaches paired with readers, at any one time. The coaches have a one day training course and use the text book 'Yes, we can read,' and other reading books, with the support of the coordinators. There are several members of the committee who are teachers with expertise in adult literacy who can support the coordinators and also readers if needed. Reading sessions are done twice weekly for 1/2 hour on a flexible basis.
