Recipient Org: Description Shrinking budgets, increasing class sizes, government mandates - the challenges of delivering quality education is daunting which is why we formed the North Town School Association in 2005. Parents, carers and teachers are very welcome to become members of the North Town School Association when they join our school. We organise and manage a number of hard working dedicated volunteers throughout the academic year and parent volunteers, in particular, make a difference to our pupil’s experience of school in many different ways. Some visit school and provide help and support in the classroom, while others accompany classes on school trips. Our aim is to identify what pupils need in order for them to be successful in their learning, including health, school safety, physical fitness and general wellbeing. We are best known for our fundraising work, but we also have a social function too and our fundraising events provide an opportunity for us all to get together and have fun. For example, we regularly run fundraising events such as discos for the children, Christmas Bazaar, Summer Fete, Quiz Nights for the parents and carers, sponsored events, as well as children designing their own Christmas cards and collections of 'Rag Bags' to collect funds for the school and which also supports a local charity. The money that we raise is used exclusively to provide the 'extras' not already provided in the school's normal budget. In recent years, our organisation has contributed towards the following items: • Pirate Ship, • MUGA (Multi Use Games Area), • 'Wet Play' toys for all classes so they have toys and games to use in the event of poor weather. • 2 new table tennis tables. We have a team of volunteers who work extremely hard towards making these things happen and we are always looking for new ideas and innovative after school projects which the children can be involved with. We are very much aware aware that life within our community can be very tough for our elderly residents. Too many are stranded at home, lonely and isolated and there is a lot of anecdotal evidence which suggests that contact with children is an especially effective antidote to loneliness. Consequently, we would like to expand upon a new and innovative intergenerational dementia awareness project and we are seeking funding to facilitate our initiative which will help build up the social network and open doors to other activities for the isolated and elderly members of our community.
