Recipient Org: Description | • CCS delivers community development and personalised support and services in Somerset, so people, communities and enterprises can shape their own futures, address vulnerabilities and make their place the perfect place to live; we help when others can’t, won’t, or don’t. We are about enabling and empowering people, community organisations and enterprises to make a difference rather than doing this to or for them. Our local knowledge and experience and reach into communities is unrivalled and our programmes have gained national and regional recognition and accolades. We are a financially secure and well governed organisation, with a strong track record. • We support ethnically diverse communities in Somerset (also known as Black Asian and Minority Ethnic communities - BAME), providing outreach and a wide range of support to enable people and community groups to make an even bigger difference to improving community cohesion and resilience. Through our existing HPC funding we: support multicultural events; facilitate networks (e.g. Women of Colour Network, Anti-racism and cultural education network); support BAME groups to grow, flourish and fulfil their ambitions; provide a bridge between statutory organisations and ethnically diverse communities; keep an up to date shared directory of active BAME groups; hold welcome events for HPC workers and provide training opportunities for individuals and groups. We also provide English lessons and distribute small grants to BAME groups and we are developing Interfaith work and delivering a project for BAME young people. • Our flagship Village and Community Agents work in communities to bridge the gap between local people and services/support offered by all sectors, to help find solutions to identified needs (often building capacity and social capital so communities can implement their own solutions). They support anyone, of any age, with anything; particularly enabling preventative and community focussed solutions, as well as providing up to date information and signposting to appropriate services. They take referrals from health and care services to help people who need help, and support carers across the county. Our Agents are professional, trusted enablers/facilitators of Asset-Based Community Development that is crucial for the survival of rural communities. • Other key services include: a wealth of specialist information, advice and expertise to support communities; training to help people improve IT skills; helping communities find funding for local projects; providing bespoke, specialist advice and information for Somerset’s Community Buildings and Village Halls; support for local businesses; support for social and community enterprise through our trading subsidiary Smart Communities Ltd and administration of grant schemes. • As a member of Action with Communities in Rural England delivering project activities such as digital inclusion, consultation around rural affordable housing and fuel poverty to meet Defra priorities as well as collating local rural intelligence and evidence to feed into government departments to influence and shape service delivery in Somerset and nationally. |
