Recipient Org: Description | Selsey Community Forum exists to enable the residents of Selsey to work in partnership to discern local needs and find solutions together. This is done in three ways: 1 Selsey Information Exchange is the small office hub of the organisation open 34 hours per week and on seven days per week staffed by 9 volunteers and 3 part time staff working a total of twenty hours per week. The office advertises local events, gives access to numerous information leaflets, offers a welcome to Selsey pack to visitors and other tourist information. It also runs a community diary, extensive website information and a calendar of events. The office also offers a daily phone call to 20 lonely older people, arranges menus and transport for 100 older people for Sunday teas, lunch and folk clubs and Christmas Day lunch and is taking on the administration of two further weekly social interaction events from October. 2 In 2016 the Forum led 47 community meetings to help people arrange and coordinate events, services and activities for young people, older friends, families, chairs of organisations, capital projects and community funding. These were all held in cost free premises and were attended by total of 450 representatives. The Forum was asked in 2012 to enable the fulfilment of Selsey Community Vision and in 2017 has been asked to carry forward 52 community ideas raised at the Annual Town Meeting. Out of these meetings new charities have emerged like Arts Dream, Sports Dream, Youth Dream and Selsey U3A. 3 The charity runs working groups to administer a local grant fund, build a cycle route, create flood defences and emergency plan, design a dementia friendly community and address loneliness in the town through Selsey Community Watch. Partnerships with statutory and commercial agencies are also facilitated. |
