The project aims to provide a targeted, weekly, safe, group for children who have a parent in prison to pursue interests, opportunities to experience success, increase children’s self-efficacy, self-esteem and develop support networks within their community. The project will use sport to break down barriers and encourage peer support in order to reduce the stigma of parental imprisonment. Which should enable children to explore feelings and emotions attached to this intensely traumatic experience and empower children to consider their aspirations and goals to promote positive outcomes in both the short and long term.

Recipient Org: Description Children Heard and Seen is a charity that works to mitigate the effects of parental imprisonment on children, young people and their families, and consequently to reduce the likelihood of generational offending, mental health issues and family breakdown through supporting and providing information for families and for professionals who work and support them. 65% of boys with an imprisoned parent will go on to be offenders themselves, we are committed to breaking this cycle and supporting children and young people to make positive choices which are sustainable.
