Recipient Org: Description The MS Therapy Centre (Oxfordshire) is a small independent charity which provides a range of complementary therapies for people suffering from multiple sclerosis. We receive no funding from the NHS or government, so all of our income is from donations and fundraising. The therapies we offer include physiotherapy, osteopathy, massage, footcare, reflexology, acupuncture and oxygen therapy. Oxygen therapy is less well known than the others, so I will explain a little about it. It involves the sufferer sitting in a six-person chamber and breathing pure oxygen through a mask for an hour in a pressurised environment. This means that the amount of oxygen absorbed by the blood is increased by up to five times. The increased amount of oxygen has a beneficial effect on the lesions on the nerves which are prevalent in MS, and although it is not a cure, symptoms are relieved. We also offer the oxygen chamber to cancer sufferers following radiotherapy and to people recovering from sports injuries or broken bones.
