Steppin' Forward Project (360G-ocf-a061600000lGIPk)

The grant will be used to help fund the Kitchen Manager’s salary. The Kitchen Manager will work with 6 beneficiaries who have been assessed by our project workers and who have signed up to the project to develop catering skills to give them a realistic opportunity to find work or engage in a positive volunteering role. Training options are: café food preparation, preserve/chutney making, or kitchen cleaning/hygiene. Placements will be 6 weeks long. Participants will also be supported with finding work through our weekly job club (CV preparation, job interview skills and recruitment agency referrals).

Recipient Org: Description We are a Christian based organisation whose mission is to help in a totally non-discriminatory way, homeless, recently re-housed homeless or vulnerably housed people. We encourage our service users (our members) to tackle the multiple disadvantages that prevent them from moving forwards towards a more positive lifestyle. We concentrate upon housing, companionship, learning skills, work related skills and opportunities for development. We offer a unique day centre based on two elements: one is the basic facilities (a café, a shower/laundry room, free internet access and a library). The other is the support side: we offer one-to-one support addressing the issues of housing, health, education, employment, and wellbeing. We seek to promote a sense of self-worth and purpose, and offer support and challenge to our members in the areas of: • Health -- access to medical/dental services and to the range of health care services we all need • Housing -- help to live where they need to • Education -- to develop their skills and abilities • Employment -- to lead a purposeful life
