Grant to Beacon Counselling 01 Feb 2017
To fund volunteer expenses for the volunteers who help Beacon at the Stockport Beer Festival. We have been the nominated charity of the year for the Stockport Beer Festival for the past 2 years and are now in our final year. This opportunity allows us to raise money that enables us to deliver free counselling services to vulnerable and disadvantaged people in Stockport. We have a charity run stall selling various beers and ciders and run a number of other fundraising activities of which all money raised goes directly to providing these services. The stall and activities are run by volunteers, many of whom are local to the area. There are 80 volunteer slots to be covered by approximately 50 volunteers throughout the day and evening meaning that we rely heavily on their support for the running of our stall. With a full complement of volunteers we have the potential to raise £8k which means we can even more counselling to people who are out of work or facing other financial hardship. The grant will cover the volunteers’ refreshments and travel expenses and will mean that we can attract more volunteers and use the money we would have spent on expenses to deliver counselling sessions for people in Stockport.
