Volunteer Britain 14 Jul 2005
Community Service Volunteers (CSV) works to reconnect people to their community through volunteering and training and to enrich people?s lives. This project will produce short audio and visual clips on volunteer's experiences, produced by the volunteers themselves. CSV will showcase the clips in order to recognise their efforts and promote volunteering to others, through radio, TV and at local community events. This will be done in conjunction with the 'Year of the Volunteer' campaign.

Under their Retired and Senior Volunteer Programme, this group will place volunteers over 50 years of age with York's Out Of School clubs. They will bring experience and creativity to children under 10 years old. The award is for volunteer expenses, promotional materials, room hire and CSV travel expenses.
This project will train and equip older people to act as volunteers to lead local activities for their peers in Manchester. Volunteers will choose to partake in three areas; active body activities, active mind activities and intergenerational activities. An example of an active body group could be walking groups, six to be established where volunteers are trained as walk leaders and first aiders.

This project expands an existing scheme that reaches out to isolated older people by adding new healthy eating and exercise opportunities to its existing volunteering programme for people aged 50 and over. The new work will introduce older ex-carers to the sociability of volunteering and help them regain a sense of life purpose. There will also be the establishment of community allotments run by older volunteers, paired reading, gardening and walks.

CSV will use their grant to expand their 'Essex Supported Volunteering Project' which provides volunteer mentor support to disabled people to help them build their confidence and take part in social activities and integrate into social groups as well as help them use community facilities and to take up voluntary work.
CSV Vocal Project 15 Aug 2012
This grant will expand the volunteer project for people with learning disabilities into new parts of the county, offering a programme of training, volunteering and supported employment using community mentors. Called the Vocal Project, participants work with community volunteers who help them to access training and social events. As their confidence around people and skills develop, they will then gradually move into volunteering placements either in a group or an individual setting.

Community Healthy Living Advisor Volunteers 22 Jun 2006
The Manchester branch of Community Service Volunteers runs a range of projects that encourage people to take up learning via its Media Clubhouse. With this award it will deliver workshops, led by a qualified nutritionist, aimed at individuals who want to become volunteer healthy living advisors. The volunteers will be recruited from groups with multiple disadvantages as well as minority groups based in and around the City Centre.
This continuation project will enable Community Service Volunteers to reduce the isolation of older people, particularly those in Asian communities, and improve their physical and mental health by empowering them to devise, set up and take part in activities as volunteers and organisers. Volunteers will be supported to run activities in their local community, such as gardening, healthy walking groups, knitting and IT training.
Older people volunteering at primary schools 11 Jan 2005
The project will empower older people to take an active part in their communities by giving them the opportunity to take the lead in designing and delivering voluntary services to support the development of children in Hackney and Tower Hamlets. Older volunteers will work in primary schools to provide support for pupils, especially those for whom English is an additional language.
Operation Strongbow 13 Feb 2008
This project in Stockton-on-Tees, based on successful previous work in Middlesbrough, is a volunteer-led initiative to support older people at risk of distraction burglary. Volunteers will visit vulnerable and older people in their homes, or in community settings such as day centres, to empower them to avoid doorstep crime. Older people will be alerted to the types of tricks used, simple steps they can take to avoid being victims, and the importance of reporting any incidents to the police.
Sex Matters 25 May 2010
Sex Matters aims to improve the sexual health and well-being of young people aged 14 - 25 living in disadvantaged areas of Gwent. Working with Gwent NHS Trust 150 young people will be recruited and trained as Sex Matters volunteers. After receiving relevant training the volunteers will set-up and deliver 288 Sex Matters workshops over 3 years.

This project will address the needs of three groups of older people. Ones facing transition periods who will act as volunteers thus addressing their own social isolation, those socially isolated but able to attend activities ouside the home and those who are frail and housebound. Activities will be centred on residential homes but not exclusive to residents. Volunteers will be used as befrienders and activity organisers.

This project will enable people over 50 to address issues of loneliness. The project will be delivered in three strands addressing the needs of younger beneficiaries by encouraging volunteering to delay the effects of aging, those isolated or in care who can leave their homes to attend activity 'hubs' and those who through age or infirmity are housebound and will need one to one volunteer support to follow their interests.

CSV will engage young volunteers across Gwent to produce a DVD aimed at giving parents the information and skills to discuss relationships and sexual health with their children. This meets the Awards for All aim of 'improving the quality of life'. This grant for £4,928 will fund staff and volunteer expenses, promotion and marketing, DVD production and a community launch event.
