Volunteer Organiser and Trainer 23 May 2008

This is a reapplication as a result of the merger between SIFA and Fireside in December 2007. There is no change to the original aims and outcomes and the project will be delivered as per the original agreement. The project is to provide a volunteer and member helper co-ordinator to co-ordinate the 120 volunteers that work in the drop in and assist with the resettlement project. The project will provide a well organised scheme that offers training, support and exit strategies for volunteers.

This is a project by a charity in Digbeth, Birmingham. The group will use the funding to purchase a range of new books and games to support their volunteer reading helpers, who provide one to one support sessions to young people having difficulties reading. Volunteer work will be recorded and exchanged for rewards such as training and work placements under the scheme which will improve intergenerational relationships and reduce isolation. Young people will be encouraged to take a more positive role within the community and elderly and disabled people will be urged to volunteer.

Community Volunteers / Welcome to the West Midlands (WTWM) 15 Feb 2012
