'bfriends' East Lothian 16 Apr 2008
This project will raise the self esteem, confidence and life skills of vulnerable isolated young people whose support structures have been eroded through changing family structures. This project will provide a befriending service to young people aged 5 to 16 years of age. The project will run for 5 years and will reach 70 young people, 70 families and offer volunteer opportunities to 70 adults. The project will fund the salaries, training, equipment, administration and volunteer costs.
The project will investigate the changing roles of fathers in their families as well as the changing role of men in their social networks, communities and the workforce as a means to understanding how being a young father can be supported by organisations such as Children 1st and other organisations supporting families.
Early Intervention Service 21 Mar 2007
Children 1st's idea is to introduce an early intervention service for non-abusing parents offering counselling services and short term group work programmes along with support in the healthy recovery of the child, parent/carer and family. This will help children and families to recover and live healthy and functional lives. The grant will fund consultancy fees and a practice guidance pack.
Chill Out Zone (COZ) 08 Jun 2007
The Chill Out Zone in Bathgate. 300 young people aged 12 - 20 will benefit from extended opening hours on Friday evenings and weekends. The project will also help young people to access volunteering opportunities. Young people who are socially excluded such as 'looked after' and accommodated young people, teenage mothers and LGBT young people. The grant will meet the salary costs of two new full time project workers.
The funding will be used for a programme of workshops focussing on children's views of fatherhood.

Towards the salary for an early years' policy officer to make a lasting impact on Scottish early years policy, provision and practice.
This group will engage a writer and performer to facilitate the production of a 15-minute short film which will engage disadvantaged young people helping them explore the themes of sexual health and relationships. This grant will fund an external film production services, sessional support staff, transport for 25 people, publicity costs, website costs, software and two video cameras.

Western Isles Project 31 Jan 2008
This three year project will build on the success of a recent pilot project to increase the ability of young people to be involved in local decision making processes. It will develop the existing Children's Parliament in the Western Isles to the Southern Isles. 500 young people aged 11 - 16 will benefit from a range of arts-based activities and sessions. In particular, 20 young people who were involved in the pilot project will act as project advisors and peer educators. The grant will fund salary costs.

This group will print and send a copy of its comic book 'Councils of the Galaxy' to every school in Scotland. The comic is part of the group's research programme on pupil councils and decision making in schools. It is a source of information for pupils on leadership, promoting good citizenship and being an influence in their schools and communities. The grant will fund comic book printing, posting of comic books to 2,800 schools and contractual royalty payment to an external illustrator/lead author.

Vulnerable children are temporarily placed with trained adoptive parents as fosterers. Social workers work with and support birth parents to be able to care for their child. Foster parents granted temporary care by Sheriff court with supervised access by birth parents. Immediate placement granted if decision that child be adopted
