Cutting The Cost Of Cold - Affordable Warmth in Mendip 30 May 2007

The project will work in the Mendip District Council area of Somerset to provide advice, information and support to elderly and vulnerable residents. It will identify those in fuel poverty and/or housing where damp and cold,poor insulation, heating or maintenance is impacting on their health, wealth, quality of life and energy efficiency.It will support those people through applications for benefits to which they are entitled and also the Warm Front grant scheme for heating and insulation improvements.

The project will help thousands of older people living in fuel poverty. It will encourage people to make behavioural changes that will reduce their energy use and fuel debt, improve their access to benefit entitlements and energy efficient grant schemes and improve their understanding of energy use in the home. Warming Bristol Communities 09 Sep 2009

This expansion of an existing project will aim to improve the lives of culturally diverse communities in Bristol, living in cold, damp homes and struggling to pay fuel bills or at risk of falling into arrears. The project will focus particularly on the city's estimated 16,000 Somali population, and also train existing service providers to support this community. Many of the intended beneficiaries experience language problems, isolation, poor physical and mental health, and a poor socio-economic profile.
