Exposures Careers Development Project 17 Feb 2005
Greater Manchester Arts Centre is also known as Cornerhouse, which is Manchester's centre for contemporary visual arts and cinema. It has identified a need for career development information for young people wishing to work in TV and film-making. This project will meet that need, providing a series of careers training days in six different venues, followed by two expert masterclasses at the 'exposures' student film festival, for which transport will be provided.

The project is to hold a series of educational workshops with two schools. Experienced sonic artists and composers will lead the classes and the finished works will be sound files representing the young people and the place where recorded. A visual element will be presented at Cornerhouse and on its website, enabling schools around the country to access the finishre pieces.

The charity in Manchester will operate a weekly youth performance group to engage with people from areas of poverty helping to develop communication, confidence and social skills.
To provide a free, informal projects around film, art and multi-media for young people aged 14 to 18 years old. This are wide ranging and may include film making, sound recording, career workshops which relate to jobs in the creative industries, or an international cultural visit.

A three year programme of micro-commissions designed to develop new ideas and open up Cornerhouse to a wider network of artists/makers/curators both professional and amateur.
This charity provides an artistic and educational programme for a wide range of people. They will use an award to fund a series of workshops for groups of older people. Workshops will make short films based on the Olympics which will be uploaded onto the Internet and be showcased at an awards day. The project will encourage older people to learn new skills, be more active and less isolated improving mental and social well-being.

The funding will be used to run workshops, activities and a community event for vulnerable children and young people in the local community. The project aims to address issues of wellbeing and mental health in order to reduce isolation and marginalisation.

The new group will use the grant to establish weekly tap classes at the Sale Waterside Arts Centre in Trafford. In addition the group will organise rhythm tap workshops, hold tap screenings of tap documentaries and film footage, creating opportunities for all participants to perform and develop their skills. The award will fund venue hire(tap screenings and tap jams), marketing (tap screenings and tap jams) and a contribution towards; venue hire(classes), tap dance practitioner and other marketing.
