The Church of England Children's Society (Children's Society) was established in 1881 and is committed to working for social justice for children and young people. This project is a nationally co-ordinated strategic programme to help young refugees and asylum seekers to articulate their needs and experiences, and to deal confidently with various audiences.
Restoring immigration legal aid for children 05 Mar 2014
This grant will fund The Children's Society (TCS) for 12 months to document the need for vulnerable children to have access to free legal representation on immigration matters. The research will be used as a 'witness statement' in a forthcoming legal challenge aiming to restore immigration legal aid to children. It will also be published as a research briefing to promote understanding of the experiences of children trying to access their entitlements without legal help.

Young people participating in Leading Edge will be empowered to solve their own problems, articulate their needs, and will be supported to address some of the barriers they have identified to integration and attainment in school.
Reach Out Project 09 May 2007
This project is an expansion of existing services that will offer support to children and young people at risk of running away from home in Devon. The project will improve young people's access to confidential and friendly support that will be provided in a private environment that is not adult-orientated. They will work with a range of agencies including the Police, Social Services and children's homes.

A project to develop an interactive website for young disabled people in Birmingham/Solihull. The website will provide local information and news on issues appropriate to the beneficiary group aswell as discussion forums for users to interact with each other.
Safeguarding Young People 21 Feb 2006
While as many young people aged 11 and above are on child protection registers as younger children, research suggests that older children are less likely to receive a child protection response. Little is known about what influences practitioners when making decisions about referring young people and what happens when referrals are made. Research in other countries have also highlighted the need for age-specific approaches to child maltreatment but this issue has received scant attention in the UK.
Hope Young Refugee Service 13 Apr 2010
This project will provide information and advocacy on a one to one and group basis for young people aged 11-19 living in Manchester, Trafford and Salford who are refugees and asylum seekers. It will aim to increase their emotional resilience and ability to solve their own problems, and increase respect and understanding between British-born young people and new migrants. The project will also work closely with local schools and colleges to promote understanding and deliver group work.

This project in Newcastle ensures disadvantaged children, young people and families in the area are able to stay safe, enjoy a good childhood and settle successfully into Newcastle life. Activities include partnership working and training, targeted support through leisure and issue based group work, targeted support with individual young people and support work with the family as a whole.

This new project aims to help young refugees and migrants have a more integrated experience of school and community life in Oxford. It will also work with young people's families to provide more stability and help the parents support their children. The Children's Society will work in partnership with schools and colleges, social services, and a local supported housing agency to run a mentoring and advice drop-in service, as well as therapeutic support for those aged five to 19 years.

Currently disabled and refugee children and young people do not regularly access the Anti-Bullying Team's programme and are not fully represented by its Young People's Steering Group. To address this, the project will extend The Society's anti-bullying programme to include special schools and schools with a high number of refugee children and young people.
The Children's Society - Care @ Home SIB 23 Dec 2015
The funding will be used to develop a social impact bond aiming to improve outcomes for young people in care through the delivery of evidence based interventions. This will be delivered in the West Midlands and commissioned by Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council. This will last up to a year with a staggered exit process over three months to support sustained behavioural change. The grant will fund service refinement, development and testing of the financial model, a procedures manual and technical support.
Young Refugees Leading Edge Project 28 Apr 2006
This will be a youth-led national programme for young refugees aged 11-18, including young carers, to increase their inclusion in education. Working directly in 3 high-refugee centres (London, Manchester, Birmingham), shared learning will also be embedded in at least 3 other localities around England. A national co-ordinator will engage young people in dissemination at national level. Management, staffing, resources, travel and Other (activity costs/evaluation and dissemination).
This project will address tensions between older and younger people in Greenwich, a need that was highlighted by research and consultation undertaken by the organisation. They will run workshops and other events, using the information gathered to develop an inter-generational conflict resolution programme. Those involved in the project will gain IT, communication and teamwork skills, helping them to gain confidence and self esteem.

NCVCCO is the umbrella agency for child care/family support organisations within the voluntary sector. It aims to ensure the well-being and safeguarding of children and families through maximsing the voluntary sector's contribution to the provision of services. This application is a development of an earlier grant. The project building on the original work, aims to embed the existing regional infrastructure in England for those organisations involved in child care/family support.

This project is developing new services for vunerable children and young people at an existing centre in Blackburn. The Children's Society has developed the provision of support in health, education and integration. It also provides information and assistance with health issues by providing meetings with health professionals. The project assists with budget planning and healthy eating, as well as donating clothing.
This project, based in Sheffield, aims to improve the delivery of and access to child centred/friendly services for young refugees and new migrants, aged 5-19 years, living in South Yorkshire. The project will also work with the wider community to help achieve more tolerance and understanding through increased social and cultural integration.
