Recipient Org: Description Home Start recruits and trains volunteers to support vulnerable families in their own homes, offering practical and emotional support to families experiencing difficulties, where there is at least one child under five. The families are usually referred by their health visitor and the reasons are many and varied, including post natal depression, illness or disability of a child, domestic abuse, mental health issues, lack of parenting skills, to name but a few. Most families who are referred are suffering from more than one stress factor. Volunteers help parents to cope with the stresses and act as good parental role models, for the ultimate benefit of the children. Each Home Start scheme runs independently, under the guidance of Home-Start UK. _x000D_ Home Start Surrey is an incorporated charity, set up in July 2013 with the key purpose of managing a contract with Surrey County Council providing funding to the eight Surrey Home Start schemes. The charity has also managed other one-off projects such as the production of a publicity film, and seeks to help the local schemes work together, building capacity throughout the whole of Surrey to ensure that as many vulnerable families as possible are able to access support.
