Recipient Org: Description | The 4th Thames Ditton (Ajax) Sea Scouts was founded in 1948. It has four sections with ages ranging from 6 to 18. Each of these meets once a week, along with a team of adult volunteers. The Scout Group works with other Scout Groups locally to provide first aid training to older young people and adult volunteers. These are led by two experienced first aid trainers and delivered to the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) First Aid certificate syllabus. This qualification is mandatory for adults volunteering as Scout Leaders and for those holding national governing body coaching qualifications, and it is a key element in the development of young people. The group is also a RYA Training Centre, which allows Ajax to teach and award internationally recognised boating qualifications. As well as its bases on the Thames and at Island Barn Sailing Club, the Group has access to facilities on the south coast which enable Ajax Sea Scouts and Explorer Sea Scouts to gain tidal experience and further boating qualifications. The Scout Group is volunteer-run and has 20 Trustees. |
