Recipient Org: Description Established in 1909, 1st Lingfield and Dormansland Scout Group is a registered charity which currently has over 100 members, both boys and girls. There are 4 sections: Beavers for 6 to 8 years, Cubs for 8 to 10 years, Scouts for 10 to 14 years, and Explorers for 14 to 17 years. The 1st Lingfield and Dormansland group is one of the largest colonies in Surrey and due to its popularity currently has large waiting lists for children to join. Each section meets once a week during term time at the group's scout hut in Lingfield. The scout group offers a varied programme of activities and learning life skills. The group encourages teenagers to become young leaders and helps them to complete Duke of Edinburgh award levels. Many of the camps and opportunities are heavily subsidised enabling equal opportunity and inclusiveness for all children. The Trustee group is comprised of 12 individuals and a further 20 volunteers assist with the operation of the group. Although the group own the freehold to the venue in which they meet, a peppercorn ground rent is payable to Tandridge District Council. The lease was renewed in the last two years and is valid for another 18 years. The hut is also made available to other groups in the local community, including a karate class. However 1st Lingfield and Dormansland Scout Group only ask for a donation in return, rather than a fixed rental price. All current members reside in the Lingfield and Dormansland area and are charged £26 per term (3 terms per year) for subscription. For families with more than one child in the scout group, subscription is reduced to £23 per term and it is possible for parents to apply to the group for a subsidy if the cost of attendance is prohibitive.
