Recipient Org: Description | Prosper Communities CIC aims to bring a new passion to community development within Surrey's disadvantaged communities - harnessing untapped talent and identifying local needs and opportunities. Prosper currently delivers Community Development within Mole Valley and has last year completed a five month "Listening Phase" within three specified areas in Reigate and Banstead. As a result of this work the Borough Council has recently recruited three full time Community Development Workers. Prosper continues to play a role in the success of this new venture as we have been commissioned to act as a "Critical Friend" supporting with the recruitment, induction and ongoing support of the newly established Community Development Team. Prosper recognises that disadvantaged communities can take many forms and following the threatened closure of much valued Singing for the Brain groups, Prosper identified that this particular community was in dire need of support. Following discussions with the Alzheimers Society and Waverley Borough Council, in April 2016 Prosper successfully applied to take over funding offered by Waverley Voluntary Partnership to ensure the continuation of the groups ultimately with little disruption. In the early weeks following the changeover group members came up with the name Melody Memories and happily, these fortnightly singing groups for people with dementia and their carers have been going from strength to strength ever since. |
