Recipient Org: Description Guildford Borough Council and the University of Surrey were founder funders of the Festival. Established in 1989, the annual Guildford Book Festival brings writers from across the literary spectrum to the town each October. For over 27 years Guildford has hosted an annual Guildford Book Festival (GBF), with a mission to celebrate great writing and share a love of books with a wide and varied audience. With more than 50 events packed into 8 days, the Festival attracts a vibrant mix of authors, speakers, artists and performers. An important element of the Festival is its schools and children's programme in which authors and illustrators are invited to visit schools in the area and engage and inspire young readers. GBF is a registered charity and charitable company limited by guarantee. The charity engages (under consultancy agreements), two Co-Festival Directors, and employs on a Freelance basis other people such as a School’s Coordinator who picks-up and accompanies the authors to the schools. GBF is supported by 14 volunteers and has 7 Trustees.
