Recipient Org: Description The Merstham Community Cafe CIC is fully committed to playing its part in helping to tackle deprivation on the Merstham Estate, through the provision of healthy, nutritious and affordable food and through the full utilisation of a training kitchen to deliver training courses on food preparation and menu planning for young mothers. We will also provide training and work experience for young people who may be interested in careers in the catering industry. We will be working with YMCA East Surrey and Redoak Centre for the benefit of local youngsters with disabilities and learning difficulties for providing cookery classes. We will be using Fairshare, to utilise surplus food to feed mouths cheaply. The café will be in the centre of a Community Hub on the Merstham Estate. All 4 Directors of the CIC are local...1 being a Borough Councillor for the area, and one a retired Borough Councillor. The other 2 are also associated with a local charity called Loveworks who operate a Foodbank in the Hub where the café will be located. Another local councillor is on the Steering Committee and a further member runs free support groups for those troubled by addiction within the local area. Also on the committee is a member of Redoak, providing support to disabled youngsters. 2 of our number are Trustees of the Merstham Facility Communitty Trust who will have a presence in the Hub where the café is situated. Any profits from the café will be used to provide extra community services to supplement their work in providing IT Training, Job Search,Uniform Swap and other community based activities. All the volunteers will be recruited locally and already help to run a one day per week hot meal pop up free service for locals. the local YMCA and Redhill colleges will be involved in the training kitchen. A survey has shown how much the local people feel the need and would like to be involved in our project.
