Recipient Org: Description In 2014/15 Rape Crisis South London received funding from the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) to set up a new centre, Rape Crisis Surrey & Sussex (RCSAS). The idea was for it to become stand-alone within a couple of years with further MoJ funding. Rape Crisis Surrey & Sussex was set up as a separate entity in December 2016 and opened its own bank account in January 2017. In the last 2 years (2016 and 2017), other smaller grants and income generated from Rape Crisis Surrey & Sussex's own activities have been included as additional income, on top of the main MoJ grants. RCSAS is based in Crawley in West Sussex. It aims to improve the lives of women and girls who are or who have been affected by sexual violence and abuse. The CIO provides independent, specialist, confidential, easily accessible, free, and specialist support. Since 2015, RCSAS has supported over 600 local women and girls (aged 13+) Services include outreach to support women and girls who are marginalised and less able to access the centre, be it due to drug and alcohol issues, homelessness, involvement in sex work or offending; BME and FGM outreach and support; Independent advocacy to support and advocate for those who are thinking about or would like to report to the police, from pre-report to beyond a trial; Trauma counselling, delivered by qualified therapists in weekly 1-hour sessions for up to a year, and grounding sessions for up to 6 sessions for pre-trial clients; Awareness raising; Training to statutory and non-statutory agencies; work with young people around issues of sexual consent, gender, healthy relationships and societal myths about sexual violence; and a helpline, open all year round in partnership with Rape Crisis South London. The CIO employs 3 full-time, and 3 part-time staff. It is managed by 6 Trustees. aller grants and income generated from Rape Crisis Surrey & Sussex's own activities have been included as additional income, on top of the main MoJ grants.
