Recipient Org: Description The Investec International Music Festival (IIMF) brings world-class artists to perform in beautiful venues in the Surrey Hills, in early May each year. Founded by Artistic Director Wu Qian and Festival Director Tessa Marchington in 2010, the IIMF is a registered charity. Originally established as the Surrey Hills International Music Festival the charity registered as a CIO in 2017. The charity is run by a trustee board of 6 and 20 volunteers. There are no permanent staff. In addition to putting on concerts, the Committee commits to supporting and promoting music to school children through open rehearsals and special pricing for under 21’s. The Festival also provides a performance platform for top post-graduate students from a London Music Conservatoire. The Strings Scheme was first launched at St Thomas of Canterbury School, Guildford in 2012 and provided violin and cello tuition to year four pupils under the expert tuition of professional musicians. The Scheme created a string orchestra of over 30 pupils from years 5 and 6 who decided to carry on learning at the end of the two year provision. The Festival has supported the expansion of this Scheme to Sandfield School, Guildford from September 2016.
