Each year over 140,000 people experience the FSC at one of FSC’s UK-wide network centres. Visitors learn outside the classroom with their school, college or university. The charity provides professional training courses for environmental professionals and teachers. It also provides natural history and art courses, and produces identification guides, and free resources. FSC has funded projects both in the UK and abroad. It is an independent national charity registered in 1963, as well as being a company limited by guarantee. FSC relies on course and visitor fees, and on the generosity of donors, trust funds, and grant-makers to finance FSC activities. The charity receives no statutory funding. FSC is managed by 23 Trustees, employs approximately 500 staff, and is supported by approximately 50 volunteers. Juniper Hall, managed by FSC, is located in Mickleham has been part of the FSC since 1947.
