Recipient Org: Charity Number | 1158745 |
Recipient Org: Description | The Charity aims to assist in financing the veterinary treatment and other costs involved in caring for retired Essex Police dogs. When a police dog retires Essex Police is no longer responsible for granting financial support in respect of the dog's health or general care and so the Fund raises money by receiving public donations and taking part in various fund-raising schemes and activities. The Fund is always keen to work alongside Essex Police and assist with public engagement duties. Attendance at School events is important - this raises the profile of our fund and also is an opportunity for either current or retired Police dog handlers to engage with young people. Our fund has two experienced volunteer speakers who attend many events and these speakers are often accompanied by retired Police dogs and their handlers. The fund attends many Police dog unit demonstrations at various locations around Essex to sell merchandise related to the fund, not only is this a way to raise money it gives an opportunity for the public to meet and greet retired and serving Police dogs - an excellent public relations exercise for the Police. When attending Schools in particular, speakers are keen to promote Police crime prevention advice and to highlight the approachability of Police Officers. In addition advice is given to children (and young adults with learning difficulties) about how to react and deal with dogs safely. We always promote any current Police community scheme that will cut crime. |
