Recipient Org: Description Bears Aims and Objectives are: The relief of persons suffering injury or illness by the provision of Immediate Medical Care. To advance the study of Immediate Medical Care by the provision of training. BEARS is an emergency medical charity, we provide, equip and support volunteer doctors, consultants, anaesthetists, general practitioners and critical care paramedics, enabling them to respond to critically ill or injured patients in the pre-hospital environment and provide support, additional assessment and treatment, beyond that of the Ambulance service. We have a number of military and ex-military within our cohort. All of our Medics, are volunteers who hold specialist advanced emergency care qualifications. Our members are on call 24/7, to respond to incidents and serious illness across Essex, when experience and skills are required beyond that of the Ambulance service, or alternatively when the Ambulance Service is stretched and therefore immediate medical assistance is required. Due to the fact that BEARS doctors and paramedics are available to respond 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, In most cases a doctor or paramedic from BEARS, will provide the same interventions as that of Air Ambulance crews, by voluntarily providing advanced pain relief/sedation, as well as advanced patient assessment and emergency surgical interventions where required. Our key benefit, is that our volunteer doctors and paramedics respond in their own vehicles on blue lights, thus enabling a 24/7 response. BEARS also have a team of medics, who voluntarily work shifts on our Enhanced Care Car, providing ‘Enhanced Care’ across Essex. BEARS are activated to respond to both urban and rural areas, to provide ‘Enhanced Care’. In most cases, if an Air Ambulance is required, a BEARS volunteer doctor or paramedic will arrive before the Air Ambulance and will have undertaken initial stabilisation and management of patient. BEARS doctors and paramedics work in partnership with both the Ambulance Service and the Air Ambulance charities, but do so voluntarily. BEARS provide seamless care, starting that advanced care journey early. BEARS do not receive any statutory funding, therefore we rely solely upon public donations, to continue our vital voluntary life saving work.
