Recipient Org: Description Home-Start Essex (HSE) is a leading family support charity based in Essex working to achieve healthy and positive outcomes for children and families. Our work comprises a long-established volunteer home visiting service, offering emotional and practical help to families experiencing difficulties, alongside a range of family groups, well-being programmes, courses and events. What makes our charity special, is that all our trained volunteers have lived experience as parents/carers themselves. We believe in the power of community mobilisation, and so invest in local areas to support local families. Our Vision is: ‘For every child and young person in Essex to grow up in a family that is strong, resilient and able to access the support they need; when and where they need it’ HSE recognises that bringing up children can be hard work. All parents and carers will, from time to time, encounter problems which make the task harder. The key to success is for parents and carers to be strong and resilient, so they can meet challenges head on, and navigate their way through or around them successfully. Through mobilising hundreds of volunteers, we support families to help themselves, developing parenting skills and improving connections in their community. Our volunteers support families struggling with: • Mental Health issues (including peri/post-natal depression, etc.) • Financial hardship • Physical health issues • Single parenthood • Low self-esteem and confidence • Domestic abuse • Isolation • Routines and boundaries • Bereavement and other significant life events The main activities of HSE are as follows: • Home-Visiting service, led by volunteers • Family Groups • School Readiness programme (e.g. Big Hopes-Big Futures) • Peri/post-natal support groups • Targeted mental health and wellbeing programmes • Counselling • Volunteer training and recruitment • Information, Advice, Guidance (IAG) and signposting • Food Bank Voucher distribution • Family activity days
