Recipient Org: Description BATIAS is an independent advocacy service which supports people who are vulnerable within the community to have a voice and be heard. Most of our clients have a learning disability and find it difficult to get their choices heard. BATIAS supports people to feel confident in speaking up for themselves and to do this we offer two different types of advocacy. 1. Formal advocacy - where people are supported one to one by a trained advocate on a specific issue. Some of the key issues that are covered are housing, child protection, safeguarding and financial concerns. 2. self advocacy - where people with a learning disability meet up to discuss issues that are important to them. Through self advocacy groups, people have the opportunity io meet new people , learn new skills and develop confidence in making decisions.
