Recipient Org: Description Trinity Methodist has been in existence since 1877. Trinity Methodist Church is a constituent of the Methodist Church established in law through the Methodist Church Act (1976). As a building owned under the Model Trusts by the Trustees for Methodist Church Purposes, the Church Council of Trinity act as Managing Trustees for the building in accordance with the Act, Model Trust, Constitutional Practice & Discipline of the Methodist Church, and all other relevant laws and instructions. Trinity is one of a number of Methodist churches in the Tendring area seeking to serve the communities in which it is set. The building has been undergoing a major revamp, in order to bring into existence a Day Centre for the Homeless and Vulnerable and to have a building for community use. The building works are nearing completion and the project team are looking at equipping areas of the building. Trinity runs various projects which provide vital support to people, respond to local needs, and build community. We house other projects and organisations which to a large extent share our aims and values of helping those who find themselves less well off, homeless, hungry and at the point of despair, which is the heart of our work. This is the foundation of the project and Day Centre. The project has been developed from the beginning through conversations with existing users, e.g. WI, Art Group, Food Cycle, Kung Fu, One Support, MIND, the Council's Homeless Officer, The Grub Club and Tea & Toast, Beacon House Colchester, as well as other agencies and organisations. Our activities: We have been involved with the local Soup Run for many years, and this [has] formed a link with the homeless and impoverished members of our community people part of the community and the Grub Club was born. This provides a free hot meal to those in need. The number has grown to 50-60 per week. Once open the Day Centre will provide further facilities and opportunities. There will be a dedicated Nurse’s Area where primary health care will be provided and other health support will be available. The provision of further hot meals during the week will be expanded. Other services will include counselling, accommodation support, mental health support, working with ex-offenders. (The plans include the development of work experience and opportunities for skills training.) The services offered will help to get people off the streets by working with agencies to find accommodation, employment and help with addictions. We believe that helping this section of community will enable the wider community themselves to feel safer, as well as providing a place of safety to those who are vulnerable and directly helping those who find themselves in the situations they find themselves in need of immediate and urgency support. Alongside the Day Centre, the community part of the building will continue with offering the space, though re-equipped with better facilities, both to already-established user groups and others who express an interest. An important part of this area is the facility to run groups for families. The Toddler Group forms part of this, and this is where friendships can be built, and advice provided, especially as there will be other agencies wishing to work from Trinity. This community approach, working in tandem with the Day Centre will, we believe, enable parts of the community who may feel insecure to become more confident and secure.
