Recipient Org: Description YMCA is the largest and the oldest charity working with young people in the world. Across England there are 114 YMCAs. Each one is a thriving and active community. A community that is transforming lives. Our mission is that all people can belong, contribute and thrive within their local community. YMCA Essex seeks to serve the children, young people and families of Essex to help them unleash their personal potential and be a part of building a better Essex for all. Our work includes a Nursery for babies and children aged 3 months – 5 years, Out of School clubs, holiday programmes, youth groups, a young carers group, support for school pupils and their families, behavioural and attendance support and we allow room hire for conferences and meetings to help serve local businesses and the wider community. As part of our youth support portfolio, young people aged from 7 up to 18 are given the opportunity to develop their independence and actively seek healthier and happier lifestyles. We deliver 9 youth groups across Essex, with a mix of universal and specialist youth groups. We have a diverse and ever-changing client base across our Youth provisions which we feel has enabled us to gain the knowledge and skills required to serve what is an extremely fast-paced generation. We are the service that supports the ‘unsupportable’ i.e. the young people that have been through multiple levels of support during their lifetime. These hard-to-reach young people are commonly placed within our Youth Groups, including those that have had traumatic events in their lives, those involved in crime/anti-social behaviour and those who have no one else to turn to. This often involves encountering conflict and aggression, something that we have become well versed in, using tools to explore thoughts, feelings, triggers and behaviours.
