Recipient Org: Description | Epping Forest ReUse's main aim is to help people in need in Epping Forest and the surrounding area. It does this by helping people on low incomes to improve their quality of life by providing affordable good quality secondhand furniture, household appliances such as fridge/freezers and miscellaneous household goods which are donated to us. We collect donated furniture and household appliances free of charge. The goods are sold at low prices to the general public and at a discounted price to people on income related benefits. items are provided free to people referred by approved agencies and to customers identified by staff as being in exceptional need. Caring for the environment is another objective and EFRU does that by diverting these goods from landfill. The third aim of Epping Forest ReUse (EFRU) is promoting volunteering. EFRU regards volunteering as an integral part of its service to the community enabling people with a social conscience to help the local community and isolated people to mix and socialise. It provides work experience and training to people with learning difficulties and those with health related problems like stress which helps them learn new skills and increases their confidence and self-esteem. EFRU used to provide these opportunities to people who were long-term unemployed but the agency that referred them has closed and few come from the local job centre. EFRU also provides placements for people on community payback. |
